Audi is looking to pioneer the fitment of a new kind of non-blinding high-beam lights across its model range, according to a Bloomberg report. The new system is known as "Matrix LED" and was first introduced on the Audi A8 range in Germany in mid-November as a EUR2,400 (USD3,290) option. Non-blinding high-beam light systems are already found across premium car model ranges, but the new Audi system progresses the technology further. The new Audi system combines 50 independently controlled LEDs to create almost one billion different combinations of light positions. This means that unlike other automatic dipping systems, which simply automatically dip high beam when an oncoming vehicle is detected, the new Audi system maintains high beam while manipulating various LEDs to ensure the driver of the oncoming vehicle is not temporarily blinded by the high beam.
