Automaker evaluating NAFTA footprint and capacity

Toyota is considering expanding pickup truck production capacity at its San Antonio, Texas plant, according to an Automotive News report. "Dealers are telling us they could sell more Tacomas and Tundras. We are evaluating our footprint and capacity," Toyota's division general manager Bill Fay told the trade publication. The plant has full capacity of 250,000 units, on two shifts plus overtime on Saturdays; Tacoma completely knocked down (CKD) production for Mexico and Canada is supplemented at a plant in Tijuana, Mexico. Fay said adjustments to the assembly line could increase production by 7,000 units at each location.
