New GM CEO demonstrates support for Opel

GM's new CEO has appeared at Opel's plant at Rüsselsheim (Germany) to assure workers and management of her commitment to the unit.

New General Motors (GM) CEO Mary Barra has chosen to visit the Rüsselsheim (Germany) headquarters of the company's European unit Opel in her first overseas trip in her new role. According to a New York Times report, Barra was keen to emphasise the symbolic nature of the visit. She said, "It is no accident that I chose to come to Germany. I thought it was very important to reinforce in person GM's commitment to Opel." During her visit, Barra emphasised that she would support the plans approved by her predecessor, Dan Akerson.
