Toyota to test wireless battery charging system for EVs this month in Japan
Has also developed a new parking assist function
Toyota will start verification testing of its wireless battery charging system for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) in late February in Aichi Prefecture (Japan), according to a company press release. The system charges a vehicle parked in alignment over a coil fixed on the ground. Toyota says the system can reduce the drop in power transmission efficiency that is usually caused by misalignment or height differences in the transmitting coil of the charger and receiving coil of the vehicle. The system minimises electromagnetic interference on nearby equipment. The automaker eventually plans to launch the system in the market.
