Daimler to produce buses at Chennai plant in India, lays foundation stone
Total plant output is expected to increase steeply to just over 10,700 units in 2015 and nearly 20,000 units in 2018.
Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has laid the foundation stone for a bus manufacturing facility at its Oragadam plant near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. According to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI), the automaker has earmarked INR4.25 billion (USD69.5 million) for the bus production facility, which is expected to start operations in the second quarter of 2015. The facility will span 27.9 acres inside its existing truck manufacturing plant and will employ 300 people. Initial annual production is expected to be 1,500 units, made up of vehicles under the Mercedes-Benz and BharatBenz brands.
