Toyota, Suzuki are among the bidders for Myanmar's Special Economic Zone
Global automakers and component producers becoming increasingly interested in Myanmar following the suspension of investment sanctions and the introduction of democratic reforms in 2012.
Suzuki and Toyota are among the bidders for parts and manufacturing facilities in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ), reports the Bangkok Post, citing the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC). In addition to Suzuki and Toyota, French-based component manufacturer Lafarge has made proposals to build in Thilawa near Yangon, said Aung Naing Oo, director-general of the MIC. The Thilawa SEZ is in its first phase of construction and is expected to become operational for manufacturing by 2015.
