Tata and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) close to finalising joint SUV project
To be based on the Land Rover's current generation Freelander 2
Tata Motors is reportedly close to finalising a project to develop a sport utility vehicle (SUV) with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), according to the Economic Times. Citing unnamed sources familiar with the development, the financial daily reported that the vehicle is likely to be priced between INR2 million (USD33,333) and INR2.5 million, and will compete with offerings from Toyota, Ford, and Hyundai. The report claims a team of 45 engineers has started working on the project, which could lead to the introduction of the new SUV during 2016/17 if the project passes JLR's techno-commercial viability parameters.
