General Motors (GM) faces short supply of some full-size SUV components

News

Constraints are expected to last more than four weeks

As General Motors (GM) launches its new, full-size SUV range, there are indications that the company is facing short supplies of popular components. Automotive News reports that a memo was recently sent to Chevrolet dealers listing more than two dozen constraints on availability for components for the 2014 light-duty Silverado, as well as the new 2015 Suburban and Tahoe. The newspaper cites GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson as saying, "We're working with suppliers to ease the constraints"; Wilkinson did not confirm which items are in short supply or for how long certain models may be delayed. Dealers are reportedly concerned about missing out on the early launch opportunity, which tends to bring out the big spenders. "A lot of features and models that people want and are willing to pay extra for, we can’t get," a Texas dealer told Automotive News.
