Spanish passenger car, LCV production grows strongly in April

IHS Automotive forecasts for light-vehicle production in the full year and beyond are positive with an improvement of around 4.2% y/y to 2.24 million units during 2014

Spanish light-vehicle production has risen further in April, according to the latest data published by the country's vehicle manufacturers' association, ANFAC. The group revealed in a statement that the number of passenger cars built during the month increased by 9.3% year on year (y/y) to 163,401 units. This has resulted in a healthy improvement in the year to date (YTD) which has now risen 6.2% y/y during the year to date (YTD) to 629,442 units. Light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales have also jumped by 20.8% y/y during the month to 21,278 units, which helped its YTD hit 78,973 units, an increase of 6.8% y/y. However, sport utility vehicles (SUVs) struggled again this month with a decline of 14.3% y/y to 2,800 units which added further weight to its declines in the YTD which now stands down by 10.2% y/y at 12,688 units.
