Recalls

Since the faulty ignition switch recall and related delay have come to light, GM has put more resources towards reviewing existing safety complaints and offering speedier resolutions.

General Motors (GM) issued four new recalls, according to announcements on 6 June 2014. Three involve airbag performance. In the first, some 31,520 2012-model-year (MY) Buick Veranos, and Chevrolet Camaros, Cruzes, and Sonics are being recalled to correct a defect in which the shorting bar inside the dual-stage driver's airbag may occasionally contact the air-bag terminals. If contact occurs, the airbag warning light will illuminate; if the car and terminals contact each other in a crash, the airbag will not deploy. The company is also recalling 61 2013–14MY Chevrolet Spark and 2013MY Buick Encores because the front passenger airbag end cap could separate from the airbag inflator, preventing the passenger airbag from deploying properly. The third airbag recall impacts 33 2014MY Chevrolet Corvettes because an internal short-circuit in the sensing and diagnostic module could disable the front airbag, safety belt pretensioners, and automatic occupancy sensing module. GM is recalling 57,512 pick-ups, including the 2014MY Chevrolet Silverado LD, the GMC Sierra LD, the 2015MY Chevrolet Silverado HD, Tahoe, and Suburban, the 2015 GMC Sierra HD, and the Yukon and Yukon XL as well. The base radios may not work, which will prevent audible warnings sounding if the key is in the ignition when the driver's door is opened or if the front seatbelt is not buckled, and puts the trucks out of compliance with safety standards covering theft protection, rollaway protection, and occupant crash protection.
