New plug-in hybrid to increase Subaru's reliance on Toyota parts
FHI, 16.5% owned by Toyota, seeking to tap into the latter's world-leading hybrid technology to be able to better conform to stricter fuel-economy requirements over the medium term
Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), manufacturer of the Subaru brand of vehicles, believes that its use of Toyota-made parts will grow with the debut of its first plug-in hybrid vehicle, reports the Nikkei financial daily, citing company president Yasuyuki Yoshinaga. FHI's new, as-yet unnamed plug-in hybrid, powered by a Subaru powertrain, is due to go on sale in the United States as early as 2017.
