General Motors (GM) recalls 3.36 mil. vehicles on new ignition switch issue, House Committee outlines hearing issues
GM's continuing flood of recalls will result in the automaker taking a USD700-million charge against its second-quarter earnings.
GM announced today (16 June) six new recalls, totalling 3.16 million US vehicles; when adding in vehicles in Canada and Mexico, the number increases to 3.36 million units. Ignition-switch issues continue to cause high-volume recalls, in this case, 3.36 million vehicles being recalled to address the danger that a key with weight on the key fob and subject to "unintended rotation due to a jarring road event" could slip from "run" to "accessory". This recall is similar to the first 2.59-million recall of Cobalts and other small cars.
