Delphi turns over documents on GM ignition switch to grand jury
US Congressional investigation is ongoing.
Delphi has turned over documents to the federal grand jury investigating General Motors' (GM) recall over faulty ignition switches, reports the Detroit News. The switches were built by Delphi to specifications provided by GM. The automaker's report found that the switches built by Delphi were approved by a GM engineer, who did not tell anyone else in GM the parts did not meet specifications when they were approved in 2002. When the engineer corrected the part in 2005, he did not issue a new part number. The US House Energy and Commerce Committee made public 80 new documents, including emails, by GM and Delphi that show GM struggled for years to understand and identify the ignition switch defect that led to airbags failing to deploy when the key was in the off or accessory position.
