Mercedes-Benz to raise production capacity at Indian plant
Current annual installed capacity of 10,000 units at Chakan, Pune is set to rise to 20,000 in 2015.
Mercedes-Benz plans to double its production capacity in India, according to a company official. Boris Fitz, Mercedes-Benz India vice-president, sales and network development, told the Economic Times at an event in Hyderabad, "The plant expansion is in the final stage and in the process of getting all approvals. It will be ready for use very soon," adding, "This calendar year, we are expecting to grow in double digit[s]. He went on, "The capacity expansion has been planned to make the company future-ready as the luxury car market is going to expand at a higher growth as compared to the normal passenger car market." When asked about the fluctuating currency rate, Fitz said, "After a long time, the exchange rate is developing positively. We have already been doing a number of price corrections, yet the pressure is still there. We will watch carefully what the Budget gives as stimulus".
