BMW cuts South African production by one-third as strike persists
BMW resumes limited operations at its Rosslyn plant
BMW's South African unit today (9 July) resumed limited operations at its Rosslyn plant after closing for a week for factory maintenance as the continuing strike by the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) affects component supplies, reports Business Day. The plant will run on a two-shift rotation instead of three shifts for the rest of this week, said company spokesperson Guy Kilfoil. If the strike continued and there was no sign of a settlement by Friday (11 July), BMW would decide whether to continue production on a day-to-day basis, added Kilfoil.
