Toyota expands component standardisation initiative to engines, next-generation Prius may offer AWD
Toyota is seeking to make its base engines more cost-competitive through standardisation and spend the savings on customised add-ons such as fuel injection, turbocharging, and stop-start systems.
Toyota has significantly overhauled its engine development strategy by spreading its wider component standardisation initiative to include powertrains, reports Automotive News, citing Koei Saga, Toyota's senior managing officer in charge of powertrain development.
