South African metalworkers' union seeks change to clause about future negotiations before ending strike
NUMSA must decide whether to accept the latest deal, which is supported by its smaller ally the United Association of South Africa (UASA), by the end of today (25 July).
South Africa's biggest labour union, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), said yesterday (24 July) it was opposed to the latest wage offer from employers because of a clause about future negotiations, reports Bloomberg. The clause, known as Section 37, calls for the union to negotiate all future cost-related employment issues at a national rather than company or plant level.
