Production at the JV will begin in 2015.

ZF Friedrichshafen is strengthening its product lineup in China as it recognises a growing business in the regional market. The company will begin production of its nine-speed automatic transmission at the newly expanded Asia-Pacific regional headquarters in Shanghai. In a statement sent directly to IHS Automotive, the German supplier said, "A test facility for the new nine-speed automatic transmission will also be installed in the new building; as of 2017, this new transmission will be produced in China as well." The new EUR50-million (USD 67.2-million) headquarters will be expanded from 11,000 square metres to 54,000 square metres by the end of 2015.
