Shanghai GM starts production at third Shenyang plant

Chevrolet Cruz will be the first product to be produced at the new plant.

Shanghai General Motors (SGM) has started production at a third plant at its manufacturing hub in the northeastern China city of Shenyang. The new plant has increased the company's annual production capacity by 200,000 units, with SGM now able to produce 500,000 vehicles per year at the Shenyang base, reports Automotive News China. SGM, a joint venture (JV) between GM and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, currently produces the Buick GL8 multipurpose vehicle (MPV), as well as the Chevrolet Captiva compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) and Cruz sedan models at other Shenyang plants.
