Japan to import rare earth metals from India
Around 2,000–2,300 tonnes (15% of Japanese manufacturers' annual requirement) of rare earth metals will be produced annually under the deal
Japan and India are set to agree on a plan for the joint production of rare earth metals in India and their export to Japan from 2015, reports the Nikkei business daily. The prime ministers of both nations are set to agree on joint production of the materials, for use in the production of auto components, at a summit meeting in Tokyo scheduled for next week, according to the report. Indian Rare Earths, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Indian Department of Atomic Energy, and Japanese trading house Toyota Tsusho will ink the deal on joint production as early as September.
