Peugeot, Chrysler, and Honda to issue fresh recalls in China
Scrutiny of foreign carmakers is growing as a result of the accusations of price-fixing on spare parts that have been in the news recently
PSA, Chrysler, and Honda have announced a raft of vehicle recalls in China, according to government agency press releases and various news agency reports. For its recall programme, Chrysler will recall 25,505 imported Jeep Cherokee models over concerns that wiring in the vehicles' sun visors could potentially lead to a short circuit or fire. The recall will be implemented on 20 October 2014, and Chrysler will change the affected parts free of charge. At the same time, PSA's joint venture (JV) with Changhan, Changan PSA Automobile, will recall 2,124 vehicles due to a defect in the fuel pump cover that could lead to an oil leak. The Honda recall involves 36,887 Siwei (CRV) models that were manufactured by its Chinese JV with Dongfeng between 2012 and July 2014, as well as some Civic models manufactured between 2011 and May 2014. This recall involves an issue relating to the airbag, with a faulty gas generator having the potential to trigger the airbag due to increases in internal pressures. Honda will recall the vehicles to be checked, and will offer a free replacement driver front air-bag gas generator in order to solve the issue. All these recalls were issued by the the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).
