Polish car production falls 36.9% y/y in August
Car industry's performance is in line with other parts of the manufacturing sector, which shrank overall, burdened by the damage to its trade links with Russia
Polish passenger car production fell by 36.9% year on year (y/y) in August to 22,068 units, following the brief rally that the country's vehicle manufacturing market experienced in the previous months of this year, according to data compiled by the Polish automotive industry association SAMAR and reported by news publication Reuters. A statement by SAMAR said, "The [Polish] car industry's performance is in line with other parts of the manufacturing sector, which shrank overall for the second month in August, burdened by the damage to its trade links with Russia". Around 99% of the vehicles that are manufactured in Poland are made at plants operated by Fiat, Volkswagen (VW), and Opel. The number of passenger cars and trucks rolling off Polish production lines in the first seven months of the year remain flat at 394,624 units, representing a slight increase of 0.77% y/y from the corresponding period of 2013.
