Mitsubishi recalling i-MiEV models for brake problem
Potential for brake vacuum pump to fail resulting in longer stopping distances.
Mitsubishi is issuing a recall for the 2010-2014 i-MiEV that affects 1,810 units of the electric car due to the possibility of the brak vacuum pump failing resulting in longer stopping distances. The affected models were all built between September 15, 2010 and March 25, 2014. There are two potential faults that can cause the problem according to Mitsubishi's filing to the NHTSA. The first is that bad programming in the EV-ECU could cause the system to "falsely judge that the relay contact point is stuck". The second is the vacuum pump exhaust hole could become correoded and blocked due to road salt. The driver would be alerted to either fault via a warning light and audible alarm.
