Toyota plans to offer collision avoidance technology in most models
Following the strategy of its European counterparts such as Germany's Volkswagen and Sweden's Volvo, by offering the technology in an increasing number of mass-market models.
Toyota plans to install a low-cost version of its collision avoidance system in around 50 models offered in Japan by 2018, according to the Nikkei – Asian Review newspaper. The limited-feature version of the anti-collision technology will be integrated into some models that will be put on the Japanese market next year. For the US market, Toyota has already announced that it will establish a collision avoidance system for roughly 30 models sold there by 2017. Until now, features such as autonomous braking to avoid forward collisions have not been offered in Toyota's mid-range to lower priced vehicles. However, the carmaker says these vehicles will feature the new safety systems as part of their general redesigns.
