Siemens integrates EV motor, inverter in single housing
New unit is gaining interest from EV makers.
Germany-based Siemens has developed an integrated drive unit, Sivetec MSA 3300, which can house together the electric motor and the inverter in an electric car, according to a company statement. In a current standard electric vehicle (EV), both the components are placed separately under the hood. A key feature of the integrated drive unit is a common cooling system, which ensures that the inverter does not overheat despite being fitted close to the electric motor.
