Toyota considers transferring Thai parts operations to Philippines
Ongoing political crisis and slumping vehicle sales are taking their toll on local manufacturing operations in Thailand.
Toyota may shift some vehicle production from Thailand to the Philippines in an attempt to spread its risk in the region, according to Malaya Business Insight, quoting the head of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI). According to the report Toyota's representatives discussed the possibility at a recent meeting between the company, the PCCI and the Federation of Thai Industries. The plans would involve possibly assembling completely knocked-down kits (CKD) of Toyota's Fortuna sport utility vehicle (SUV) in the Philippines, currently built in Thailand.
