System launches on the 2015 European Mondeo, but will be rolled out to other Ford and Lincoln vehicles globally.

Ford has developed a new pre-collision assist system, set for launch on the new-generation Mondeo. The new system incorporates pedestrian detection technology and "may help drivers avoid some frontal crashes", according to a company statement. Ford says that "in daylight and clear weather conditions" the new technology may detect people in or near the road. If the system determines a collision is imminent, it will give the driver and audible and visual warning. If the driver does not react, the car will apply the brakes and vehicle speed is reduced. However, Ford does not indicate the system will take the car to a full stop.
