Perodua-Daihatsu breaks ground on new engine plant in Malaysia

Plant expected to have an initial production capacity of 140,000 units per annum (upa) and to become operational during the second half of 2016.

Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua (Perodua) and technical partner Daihatsu Motors yesterday (27 October) began construction of their new engine plant in Malaysia, reports local news publication Bernama. The two automakers have invested about 600 million ringgits (USD186 million) in the engine plant, which is located at Sendayan TechValley in the state of Negeri Sembilan. Perodua chairperson Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin said: "This occasion is indeed very meaningful for Perodua as it signifies confidence in growth in both domestic and global markets, as well as our commitment to making Malaysia an automotive hub for the ASEAN [Association of Southeast Asian Nations] region.
