Indonesian vehicle production edges down 0.8% y/y in September, up 11.9% y/y ytd

In the short to medium term, Indonesia will transform into a regional vehicle export base, but remain behind Thailand within Southeast Asia.

New vehicle production in Indonesia slipped slightly by 0.8% year on year (y/y) during September, according to data released by the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo). Total new vehicles produced in the month stood at 115,017 units, down from 115,934 units manufactured in September 2013. Out of this total, OEMs in Indonesia exported 20,577 completely built-up (CBU) units (up 20.4% y/y), and 9,339 completely knocked-down (CKD) units (down 19.4% y/y) in September.
