Proton and Honda in talks over collaboration
Proton's scale leaves it unable to bear the costs of self-developed cars.
Proton and Honda are currently engaged in talks to explore the possibility of collaborating on technology enhancement, new product lines, and the sharing of platforms and facilities, reports local news publication Bernama, citing Malaysian international trade and industry minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed. Defending Proton's rebadging of the Honda Accord as its own sedan called the Perdana, the minister said that the low volumes for models such as the Perdana did not justify spending the hundreds of millions of ringgits needed to develop them.
