Mazda to build diesel engine plant in Thailand

The plant will begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2015 with assembly of the SKYACTIV-D 1.5 clean-diesel engine.

Mazda plans to construct a diesel engine plant adjacent to its new facility in Thailand's Chonburi province, according to a company press release. Mazda plans to begin operations at the plant in the fourth quarter of 2015 when it will begin assembling the SKYACTIV-D 1.5 clean-diesel engine for the all-new Mazda2 for the Thai market. The plant in Chonburi, which is also where the new Mazda Powertrain Manufacturing Thailand transmission facility is located, will enable comprehensive local production of SKYACTIV models in Thailand.
