NHTSA requests more documents from Honda over inflators, Audi recalls 100,000 vehicles for unrelated airbag fix
NHTSA's looks to ascertain if any defect was shielded or not handled according to the laws governing automakers and their reporting of safety issues to the US government.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued another special order for information, under subpoena, to Honda yesterday (5 November), following one issued earlier this week. This second order, with the information due to the agency on 15 December, is for all internal Honda communications relating to the issue involving Takata airbag inflators, as well as any field reports, warranty claims, and pre-suit legal claims, incidents, and lawsuits. The NHTSA has also asked if Honda sent any employees to visit Takata plants in the United States or Mexico starting in 2000, reports Reuters.
