Ford begins production at Chongqing plant in China
The all-new Ford Escort is the first vehicle being manufactured at the Chongqing 3 plant.
Ford and joint-venture (JV) partner Changan have begun production at their third vehicle assembly plant in China. The new Chongqing plant lifts Ford's annual production capacity in China by 360,000 units to a total of more than 950,000 units per annum (upa) in China. In a statement sent directly by the automaker to IHS Automotive, Ford states the new USD600-million facility is known as the Chongqing 3 plant and is the US automaker's fifth plant in China.
