Malaysian vehicle production declines 16%; Volkswagen (VW) plans exports
YTD vehicle production now stands at 497,930 units, a 0.7% y/y rise
New vehicle sales in Malaysia declined 2% year on year (y/y) to 54,187 units during October, according to data released by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA). Sales of passenger vehicles decreased marginally to 47,544 units, while commercial vehicle (CV) sales slipped 7% y/y to 6,643 units. For the year to date (YTD), total vehicle sales now stand at 546,492 units, up a marginal 0.6% y/y from 543,048 units in the same period of 2013. Passenger vehicle sales account for 88.6% or 484,196 units (up 1.2% y/y) of this total, while CVs have contributed 62,296 units (down 3.6% y/y). Production during October stood at 45,763 units, a fall of 16% y/y. YTD vehicle production now stands at 497,930 units, a 0.7% y/y rise, split between 455,800 passenger vehicles (up 2% y/y) and 42,130 CVs (down 11.5% y/y).
