Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) recalls 2,300 units in India over defective vacuum pump
Recalls on the rise in India as a result of growing consumer awareness and regulatory oversight.
Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) will recall 2,300 sport utility vehicles (SUVs) of different variants, including the Scorpio, XUV500, and Xylo multi-purpose vehicle, reports the Press Trust of India. The vehicles are being recalled to repair a defective vacuum pump in engines manufactured in May 2014, according to a member of M&M's media communications team in a telephone conversation with IHS Automotive. The inspection and replacement of the vacuum pump will be free of charge for affected customers and the vehicle owners will be contacted individually by the company, according to the report. "The inspection is limited to approximately 2,300 vehicles of [the] Scorpio (Vlx/Sle/Lx), XUV500 W4/w6/W8 and Xylo H9/H8/H4 variants," the company said.
