Thai BoI approves USD1.15 bil. worth of auto projects.

Majority in eco-car production.

The Thai Board of Investment (BoI) yesterday (25 November) approved automotive projects worth THB37.7 billion (USD1.15 billion) in the country, mostly involving investments in the latest phase of the government-supported eco-car project, reports Reuters. Of this total, investment in eco-car projects alone accounted for THB34.6 billion; Toyota Motor Thailand will invest THB10.4 billion to produce 100,000 eco-cars per year, while Honda Automobile Thailand and Suzuki Motor Thailand will invest THB8.16 billion and THB8.43 billion, respectively, to each manufacture 100,000 units per annum (upa). The Chinese-Thai car manufacturing joint venture between Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation and Charoen Pokphand will invest THB7.6 billion to produce 110,000 upa. The remaining THHB3.1 billion is proposed by Nissan for production expansion plans in the country.
