General Motors (GM) data show declining trend in South Korean vehicle production despite increasing local sales
Dropping of the Chevrolet brand from the European market drives decline.
General Motors (GM) Korea is reportedly witnessing declining vehicle production at its South Korean facilities despite seeing an increase in its local sales, reports the Korea Electronic Times, citing the automaker's internal data. GM Korea produced 629,230 units in South Korea in 2014, representing a decline of 19.6% year on year (y/y), compared with 810,854 units produced in 2011. In terms of contribution to GM's global production, the South Korean plants accounted for 6.3% in 2014; down from 8.1% in 2013, 8.5% in 2012, and 9% in 2011. As far as domestic sales are concerned, GM Korea sold a total of 154,381 units in 2014, an increase from previous years' sales performance of 151,040 units in 2013, 145,702 units in 2012, and 140,705 units in 2011.
