Potential for a cooling fan resistor to overheat and melt

Kia Motors America is recalling 86,880 Forte sedans in the US, according to a Reuters report. The recall covers potential for a cooling fan resistor to overheat and melt, increasing risk of a fire; Reuters cites documents filed by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall affects vehicles from the 2014 model year and is scheduled to begin on 24 February. Dealers will replace the cooling fan resister and multi-fuse unit for all affected vehicles; owners of Fortes with the 1.8-litre engine will also have engine control unit software updated. Kia reported several incidents of fires that might be linked to the resistor, with no accidents or injuries.
