Mercedes recalls 127,071 cars, GM recalls 22,508 cars in China
Vehicle recalls in China continue to rise.
The Chinese regulatory body, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) has issued a recall notice for 127,071 Mercedes-Benz cars due to a fire risk. The recall will begin on 13 March and is due to AQSIQ noticing a sealing strip for the engine cabin was found to be coming loose in some vehicles, considered a fire risk if the strip then falls upon hot engine components. The recall involves mostly imported CLS- and E-Class Mercedes-Benz cars manufactured between 2012 and 2014, with some locally built E-Class models involved in the recall as well. A further 705 G-Class sport utility vehicles (SUVs) are to be recalled from 9 March due to steering problems. Shanghai General Motors (SGM) will recall 22,508 Chevrolet Cruze cars due to defective vacuum boosters, AQSIQ has said. Vehicles involved in the recall were produced between 16 April 2014 and 12 December 2014.
