Tesla and Panasonic to commence battery plant operations in 2016

The joint battery manufacturing plant of Tesla Motors and Panasonic in Nevada, US, is expected to begin operations in 2016, according to Nikkei Business Daily citing a Tesla official. The initial plan was to make the battery plant operationally ready by 2017. The new facility will produce lithium-ion batteries for the Tesla Model 3 that is expected to be launched in 2017. Tesla has made progress in selecting suppliers to procure materials and parts to build the production facility.
