A strike at Lear Corporation may threaten production at the Mercedes' East London plant

A strike at Mercedes-Benz South Africa's (MBSA) major supplier Lear Corporation may threaten production at the OEM's East London plant, reports the Herald. Workers at Lear Corporation, which manufactures seats for Mercedes, refused to work on 4 February, demanding the rectification of wage rates that were halved last year. MBSA chief executive and vice-president for manufacturing, Arno van der Merwe, said, "At this point in time we do not know how long the industrial action will last, but production is continuing. If the strike continues and a solution is not found, production at our C-Class facility will be affected."
