Japan's small-car specialist Daihatsu will supply 1,000-cc engines to Chinese automakers Dongfeng Motors and BAIC Group, reports financial daily the Nikkei, citing unnamed sources familiar with the development. Daihatsu and Dongfeng are reportedly in the final stage of negotiations to supply as many as 50,000 engines from Daihatsu’s Indonesian plant for use in Dongfeng’s DFSK subcompact vehicle. The cars are expected to have a fuel economy of 20 kilometres per litre of gasoline (petrol), according to the report.
