South Korea's LG Chem to supply batteries for Daimler's Smart EV
Daimler is expected to halt the production of its in-house battery cells and instead use batteries sourced from LG Chem.
South Korea's LG Chem will supply lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries for German automaker Daimler's upcoming Smart electric vehicle (EV) line-up, reports Yonhap News Agency. Kwon Young-soo, president at LG Chem, said, "LG Chem's battery business and technology have been acknowledged worldwide once again as our products are continuously being installed by major automobile makers from their commodity brands to premium vehicles". According to the report, Daimler is expected to halt the production of its in-house battery cells and instead use batteries sourced from LG Chem for its electric and hybrid vehicle line-up. The value of the total EV battery deal concluded by the two companies is yet to be made known.
