To establish a test track and a new vehicle manufacturing plant

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has been allotted land by the Tamil Nadu state government to establish a test track and a new vehicle manufacturing plant, reports the Business Standard, citing a senior government official. The automaker has been allotted 450 acres land at Cheyyar in Thiruvannamalai district in the southern Indian state. "We have allotted land to the company and they will be investing 20 billion Indian rupees [USD321.2 million] in the first phase. The company will be setting up a test track in the Phase-I, followed [by] an automotive plant," said C. V. Sankar, Tamil Nadu's additional chief secretary to government, industries department. Including both phases of construction, total investment in the facility is expected to be around INR40 billion. The government is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding with the automaker some time in May.
