Volvo narrows choices on planned US plant to two sites
Facility is being planned for annual production close to 120,000 units per year
olvo Cars has narrowed its choices to a site in South Carolina, United States, as well as another southern US state, according to an Automotive News report. The publication cites Volvo US spokesman Jim Nichols as saying that the company has a shortlist of two potential locations, including Berkeley County in South Carolina. Nichols says the company hopes the decision will be reached "in the next few weeks". Automotive News reports that the South Carolina economic development officials have filed a permit application for an unidentified company to build a manufacturing plant in Berkeley County which would initially create 2,000 jobs, to double to 4,000 jobs in 10 years. The report says that South Carolina documents refer to the company making the application as Project Soter, the spirit of safety in Greek mythology.
