Spanish passenger car production surges in March and Q1

First-quarter output up by 24.7% year on year.

Spanish passenger car production has continued to improve strongly at the close of the first quarter, according to data released by ANFAC. Output during March has increased by 24.4% year on year (y/y) to 207,321 units, taking overall first-quarter output to 581,148 units, an increase of 24.7% y/y. However, the association also revealed that output of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) has contracted by 48.2% y/y to 2,025 units, while in the year to date (YTD) this stands at 38.0% y/y to 6,133 units. Production of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) was flat in the month at 16,701 units as vans fell by 20.9% y/y, although the former increased 1.6% y/y in the YTD to 58,623 units as the latter contracted 14.9% y/y to 57,516 units.
