BMW postpones Russian plant decision

Result of the macroeconomic chaos in the country.

The BMW Group has opted to postpone any decision on building its own production facility in Russia as a result of the macroeconomic chaos in the country, according to a Reuters report. Commenting at BMW's first-quarter financial results press event on the company's plans for the Russian market CEO Norbert Reithofer said, "Russia is a challenge for our company and we have asked ourselves how will things go on there." The company currently builds a small number of its vehicles in Russia on a contract manufacturer basis with local assembler Avtotor while it also imports a small number of the vehicles sold in Russia.
