Changan Ford to recall 173,000 Mondeo cars to fix steering flaws
China's quality watchdog has upped its standards in recent years, forcing automakers to issue repeated recalls.
Changan Ford, a joint venture between Ford Motors and China's Changan Automobile, is to recall 172,864 units of the Mondeo over faulty steering systems, reports Xinhua news agency. According to China's General Administration of Quality, Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), the vehicles were produced between 4 Jan 2013 and 25 March 2015. The vehicles are being recalled because, in highly corrosive environments, bolts holding the steering gear motor can corrode and fracture. The situation may cause the steering to fail, posing a safety risk. The recall will start on 22 June.
