Aston Martin CEO says Alabama "obvious" choice for US plant location

But expanding the company's Gaydon plant in the UK also remains an option.

Aston Martin's CEO Andy Palmer has told Automotive News Europe that the US state of Alabama is the "obvious choice" for a new plant in the country, although a final decision has reportedly not been made. The statement comes after the company earlier indicated it is considering a new production site outside of the United Kingdom, and that the US is a likely choice. With the latest report, Palmer said the company has narrowed potential locations to regions where it expects to sell the most of its upcoming sport utility vehicle (SUV), the DBX, due in 2019. "Our principal customer will be in the United States and China," Palmer said, although he also noted that a Chinese production site would be difficult because of requirements to create a joint venture in that country and because it would be more difficult to export from China to other markets.
