NHTSA causes Takata to expand airbag recall to nearly 34 million vehicles, admit defect

Takata has acknowledged a defect exists in certain of its airbag inflators, and is expanding existing recalls

The US automotive safety regulatory agency, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), yesterday (19 May) released a statement announcing that airbag manufacturer Takata will expand the recalls already issued for US vehicles, as well as admitting that its parts are faulty. Specifically, Takata's US subsidiary, TK Holdings, entered into the agreement.
